Social Intervention Services
PPA offers individual, group, and parent-coaching social interventions designed to improve social competencies in individuals of all ages. Our experienced therapists have completed clinical intensive training on Michelle Garcia Winner’s Social Thinking® methodology as well as UCLA’s Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®). They incorporate such frameworks and strategies when working with individuals who present with social challenges.
Populations that are served include, but are not limited to, individuals with:
- Language disorders
- Learning disabilities
- Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder
- Autism spectrum disorder
- Social anxiety, and
- Social communication/pragmatic language disorder
Sessions are individualized and, while largely based on Michelle Garcia Winner’s Social Thinking® and PEERS® methodologies, may also include elements of other research-based interventions/programs such as The Zones of Regulation®.
For children, adolescents and young adults, specific intervention goals may include developing:
- Reciprocity in play and conversation
- Understanding of nonverbal communication
- Social communication/pragmatic language
- Perspective-taking
- Social problem solving
- Emotional regulation, and
- Flexibility/Adaptability
Adults seeking social intervention services may also work towards:
- Developing professional skills (social etiquette for the workplace and for post-secondary scholastic settings),
- Hosting successful get-togethers
- Dating skills (asking someone on a date, dealing with rejection, etc.)
